Thames Water Investment Announced by Roz Savage MP at Latest Flood Summit
Dr Roz Savage MP hosted another South Cotswolds Flood Summit on Saturday 18th October at the Royal Agricultural University, bringing together local residents, community flood action groups and councillors to review progress on flood mitigation across the constituency.
The follow-up meeting built on the momentum generated by Roz’s two successful Flood Summits held earlier this year in Cirencester and Cricklade. Since then, tangible progress has been made, with significant investment commitments from Thames Water and other partners to improve resilience in some of the area’s most affected communities.
Priority upgrades are now confirmed for Fairford, Cricklade, Cirencester, Ewen, Ampney St Peter and Down Ampney, with further proposals under development for Malmesbury, Lechlade, Kempsford, Dauntsey, Stratton, Purton, and South Cerney.
Thames Water has also committed to expanding the Flood Warden scheme, installing Storm Impact Devices (SIDs) in high-risk areas, and working with Roz’s team to identify new projects for future funding.
Roz said:
“When we held the Flood Summits in the spring, residents made it clear they wanted regular updates, joined-up working, and practical action. I’m pleased to say we’re delivering on these priorities.
We now have real investment flowing into key sites, a stronger partnership with the Environment Agency and Thames Water, and a clear roadmap for the next phase of work. This is what collaboration looks like in action, and by working together with residents and flood groups, we’re making a real difference in the South Cotswolds.”
Cllr Tristan Wilkinson, Liberal Democrat Cabinet Member for Economy and Council Transformation at Cotswold District Council, who has been working closely with Roz’s team on flood issues, added:
“Flooding and sewage are among the biggest challenges our communities face. What we’re seeing now is real progress and not just talk. By bringing agencies, councils, and residents together, Roz has helped secure commitments that will improve infrastructure and protect homes. The Liberal Democrats will continue working closely with her at the district level to ensure this momentum continues.”
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to community resilience, improved communication between agencies, and ongoing reporting to ensure that promises made are delivered on.
