South Cotswolds MP Joins River Clean-Up and Water Testing in Lechlade

Roz Savage MP joined local volunteers in Lechlade on Saturday 13 September for a river clean-up and water quality testing session on the Thames.
Using an Earthwatch water testing kit, Roz helped to measure the health of the river while joining in with efforts to remove litter and debris from the water and riverbank. The event brought together community members committed to protecting their local environment and highlighting concerns over sewage pollution.
Sewage and river health were key issues during Roz’s election campaign, and she has pledged to continue pressing for cleaner waterways across the South Cotswolds.
Speaking following the event, Roz said:
"The Thames at Lechlade is a beautiful stretch of river, and it deserves to be cherished and protected. It was fantastic to join volunteers today who are rolling up their sleeves to care for the river – and all credit to Karen Shaw for her energy and commitment to protecting our waterways.
Testing the water quality and cleaning up the river sends a clear message: our communities want action on sewage and pollution. Clean and healthy rivers are vital for wildlife, for people, and for future generations and I will keep holding our water companies to account until we see the change that is urgently needed."
The data collected through the Earthwatch water testing kit will contribute to wider citizen science projects monitoring the health of rivers across the country, providing important evidence to strengthen calls for better protection of waterways.
