A Cirencester restaurant owner says his “faith in the system has been restored” after South Cotswolds MP Roz Savage stepped in to help recover nearly £37,700 that had been wrongly transferred by Uber Eats.

Hanif Laskar, who runs the much-loved Rajdoot Indian Restaurant on Castle Street, was left in crisis when a routine Uber Eats payment in June was sent to an incorrect account. Despite four months of chasing, Mr Laskar received no progress updates and was struggling to pay suppliers and wages for his eight employees.

After hearing his story, Roz Savage MP’s office repeatedly pressed Uber Eats UK for answers—sending multiple urgent letters to senior executives demanding action. Within days of the final intervention, the missing funds were returned in full.

Mr Laskar said:

“After months of despair, Roz Savage MP and her team gave me hope when I had none. She has proven wrong anyone who says local MPs don't make a difference. They didn’t just save my business—they saved my livelihood and the jobs of my staff. Their kindness, persistence, and compassion will stay with me forever.”

Roz Savage MP said:

“Hanif’s case shows how devastating corporate errors can be for small, family-run businesses that form the heart of our towns. I’m so relieved this money has finally been recovered, and I want to thank Uber Eats for acting once the issue reached their senior team. No local business should ever be left in limbo like this again.”

The Rajdoot Indian Restaurant has been serving the Cirencester community for over 40 years, providing employment for local residents and contributing significantly to the town’s economy.

On Saturday 18th October, Roz Savage MP visited the restaurant to meet Hanif Laskar and his team, celebrating the positive outcome and highlighting the vital role of small businesses across the South Cotswolds.
