School children listening to Roz Savage

Roz Savage MP has been meeting students in schools throughout her constituency as part of ongoing efforts to listen to young voices.

In May, she spoke to students at Cirencester College about the importance of youth engagement in politics; gave a talk about her environmental activism to sixth formers at Rendcomb College; and visited Watermoor Primary School to find out more about their work on the importance of British Values. Roz also took part recently in assemblies at Malmesbury School and Cricklade Manor Prep School and has several other school visits coming up.

Reflecting on these visits, Roz said ‘I find it heartening to see young people so eager to learn about politics – even if sometimes this leads to some very frank feedback! I’m very grateful to their teachers for fostering their interests so keenly, and for introducing students to democracy through school councils. These visits are also valuable opportunities to find out about the support our students and teachers need, so I can represent their concerns in Westminster - especially as the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill continues to move through Parliament.’

Greg Pollock, Senior Professional Humanities Tutor at Cirencester College, said ‘We were delighted to have Roz come to meet our A Level Progression Pathway students. Her talk on her life both before and after becoming an MP was highly engaging, and our students commented on how much they appreciated Roz’s honesty about overcoming challenges and pushing herself outside of her comfort zone. The sheer number and variety of questions our students asked at the end of the talk is testimony to how much they valued the experience.’

Roz encourages any other schools which would like to arrange a visit to reach out to her office via the following address: roz.savage.mp@parliament.uk
