Dr Roz Savage MP Presents Sherston Surgery Petition to Parliament

South Cotswolds Liberal Democrat MP, Dr Roz Savage, has formally presented a petition to Parliament calling on the Government to secure the future of Sherston Surgery.
After leading a local campaign that gathered 1,695 signatures from residents in Sherston and surrounding villages, Roz submitted the petition to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, highlighting the urgent need for action.
The petition requests that ‘the House of Commons urge the Government to take immediate action to support the establishment and ongoing operation of a new healthcare facility in Sherston, in order to ensure continued access to NHS services for the local community.’
For the past 18 months, Sherston residents have faced uncertainty over the future of their GP practice, which is expected to close in 2027 without confirmed plans for a replacement. While a housing developer has offered to build a new surgery, the local Integrated Care Board (ICB) has yet to commit to funding NHS services there.
Without a surgery in Sherston, patients would have to travel to Malmesbury, Tetbury, or Chippenham - a serious concern for those reliant on infrequent and unreliable public transport.
Speaking after presenting the petition, Roz said:
“I am proud to have brought this petition to Parliament on behalf of Sherston’s residents. The strength of community support shows just how vital this surgery is. I will continue to press the Government and the ICB to fund a new facility so that Sherston and nearby villages don’t lose essential NHS services.
I would like to thank the community of Sherston, who have come together to ensure that their voice is heard in Parliament. I would especially like to thank Wiltshire Councillor Martin Smith, the Chair of the Parish Council Tanya Burgess, and Alison Picter who have worked incredibly hard to gather so many signatures”.
Roz has pledged to keep up the pressure on Ministers and healthcare decision-makers to secure a long-term future for Sherston’s primary care provision.
