Cirencester Resident Sharon Scrivens Honoured with Early Day Motion in Parliament

Sharon Scrivens, a remarkable Cirencester resident and dedicated volunteer, visited Parliament on Tuesday 25th February to receive recognition from Roz Savage MP for her outstanding contributions to fundraising efforts for Cancer Research UK (CRUK).
During her visit, Sharon was presented with an Early Day Motion certificate that commends her leadership in the CRUK Cirencester Relay for Life and celebrates her being awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for her tireless work in the fight against cancer.
Sharon, alongside a team of passionate volunteers, has been at the helm of the CRUK Cirencester Relay for Life since its inception in 2017. The event has raised an incredible £385,898 to date, supporting life-saving cancer research. The Relay For Life initiative is a year-round team fundraising challenge that unites communities in their shared mission to beat cancer.
Roz expressed her admiration for Sharon’s dedication:
“Sharon is an incredibly inspiring example of how a person can overcome heartbreaking personal tragedy, having lost both her father and her son to cancer, and has redirected her grief into something positive. Her work has not only raised vital funds for Cancer Research UK, but it has also brought the local community together to show that, united, we are stronger than cancer. It was an honour to welcome Sharon to Parliament and present her with an Early Day Motion to celebrate her achievements.”
The Early Day Motion acknowledges Sharon’s incredible leadership and encourages others to get involved with fundraising challenges, like the Relay for Life, to support Cancer Research UK and the fight against cancer. The Motion also calls on the Government to continue backing grassroots fundraising efforts and ensuring these community-led initiatives receive the recognition and resources they deserve.
Sharon has shared her reflection on the visit:
“I thoroughly enjoyed my day and thankful I could bring my daughter with me.
The whole experience was incredible, and Roz and her team were lovely and very welcoming. It’s great that Roz appreciates grassroots fundraising, especially within a local community, and I came away feeling uplifted and motivated.”
Sharon’s inspiring work has made a profound impact on her local community, and she remains a driving force in supporting the ongoing battle against cancer.
